[Tutorial]Play YouTube flash(.flv) videos on Nook Color
While (hopefully) the upcoming Android 2.2.1 update (Jan. 2011) will address the issue, here is how you can download and install Adobe Flash Player 10 – which will enable you to watch youtube videos of ALL types on your NOOKcolor.
I had to do this after the software version update from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 no longer allowed me to play Flash content. To check if you have THIS update, on the NOOKcolor, select Settings, Device Info, About your NOOKcolor and look under Software version. More info. about this can be found here:
To install Adobe Flash Player 10.1.102.64 onto your NOOKcolor:
1. From your computer, click the Link below (or Copy and Paste in your Browser): http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
From that site:
Step 1 – Select the first option: Windows 7/Vista/XP/2008/2003/2002 or Macintosh OS X 10.4 – 10.6
Step 2 – Select a version – Flash Player 10.1 for Windows – Other Browers or For Mac OS X
Click: Download Now
On the next page, select Save and select Desktop as the location. Do NOT modify or change the downloaded file’s name in any way.
2. Connect your NOOKcolor to your computer using the USB cable that came with your NOOKcolor. After USB connection, a new removable drive should show up in My Computer (Mac users will see the NOOKcolor drive appear on the desktop or in devices). My computer (running Windows XP Pro.) calls the new drive, media (K:). You should also see a “USB Mode” message on your NOOKcolor screen. This message is for informational purposes only.
3. Open My Computer and click the new drive – again, mine is called media (K:) – to open.
Next, Drag and Drop the downloaded file (from the Desktop) into the main directory of the NOOKcolor drive. You should not create a new folder on the NOOKcolor drive or add the file to any other existing folder – just drop it on any open space.
4. Pull out or Safely Remove the NOOKcolor USB after the file transfer from both computer and NOOKcolor (Drag & Drop from Desktop to – in my case, the opened media (K:) – folder under My Computer) is complete. You can now close the open computer windows.
Next, I restarted my NOOKcolor and went to Youtube and enjoyed my video(s) of choice.
If you are still receiving the same message from Youtube regarding the needed update – repeat the above steps. If the video(s) play – you were successful and you can delete the Adobe Update file from your computer Desktop. This worked for me and I hope it works for you as well…
