MXF is fairly effective at the interchange of D10 (IMX) material and is used by more and more professional camcorders like Sony XDCAM, Panasonic P2 502, HVX200 and Canon C300/XF300/XF305 to store video, audio, and programmed data. The MXF, short form for Material eXchange Format, is a container format (Like AVI) for professional digital video and audio media defined by a set of SMPTE standards. Unfortunately the MXF format is not a friendly file type for Mac OS, neither QuickTime nor iMovie recognizes the MXF recordings.
In order to play or edit such MXF files with QuickTime and Mac editing application(s), you will need to convert MXF to MOV/MP4 format with the professional MXF to Mac Converter and editor. When encode MXF to MOV you may
* Convert MXF to QuickTime MOV to play in QuickTime Player and iTunes;
* Transcode MXF to AIC MOV to edit footage in iMovie and Final Cut Express;
* Convert MXF to Apple ProRes MOV with Timecode preserved for importing to Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Pro X.
